Five Rings Training takes its name from the classic Japanese text
The Book of Five Rings
by Miyamoto Musashi
commonly regarded as a manual on how to succeed in life and titled the Classic Guide to Strategy.
Musashi was Japan's most legendary and unconquerable Samurai. He wrote the book in 1645 distilling the philosophies of Zen, Shinto and Confucius. Used by martial artists and business leaders alike, the Book of Five Rings articulates the ancient wisdom of the Samurai Way which provides strategy for decision in all areas of life - the home, the battleground and the boardroom.
FRT motto is Take Responsibility
for which we focus on overcoming our limitations to unleash potential and be a highly efficient version of ourselves.
Our philosophy is based on understanding the body as an energy system. We respect the Zen disciplines of meditation, mindfulness and living in the moment and coach comprehensive training systems which uniquely train mind, body, energetic system and spirit in unison. This is the route we choose for health, peace, balance and fulfillment of lifepath.
Our focus is on the development and cultivation of the Individual, as change at a societal level, begins and ends with each one of us. We encourage individuals to train towards self responsibility in all they do, from tackling the challenges of day to day life, creating and maintaining personal wellbeing, fulfilling their full potential, being able to protect themselves and others and developing an awareness which will lead to a path of constant self development and personal advancement.
The knowledge and way brought to the fore of our programmes is that which we have trained in, and live, ourselves. With a deep understanding of traditional Budo training, we teach and study strategy, how to understand the link between mind and matter, how we impact upon our environment, how our environments impact upon us, teaching the requirement and necessity for self responsibility at all levels.
Through dedicated research of the body in combat and studies of 'human states' (ref lecture series) in the aftermath of stress and during life changes, our specialist training systems have been developed for strategic training, life betterment, performance enhancement and rebalancing of the system.

The logo is the Enso symbol, Japanese word meaning circle, which represents an expression of the moment when the mind is free to let the body and spirit create; the condition of no-mind or mushin.
Mushin is achieved when the mind is free from fear, anger and ego and allows the true self to shine through and function at a highly intuitve and creative level.
The enso symbolises absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, and mu (the void). At Five Rings Training the enso reminds us of the importance of the quest for personal and spiritual development, and the significance of the space bewteen.
Drawing Balance. Some artists will draw enso daily as a type of spiritual diary: the shape of the circle formed in a single stroke displaying balance, patience and development.
Physical action for spiritual purpose.
